Pre-Placement Examinations
The Pre-Placement Examination is a valuable tool used by employers to evaluate the medical fitness of individuals to perform the essential functions of the job without hazard to themselves, fellow workers, or to the employer’s property. In addition, other benefits which are obtained include the detection of past or present harmful working conditions and advisement concerning corrective measures, the identification of disease or risk factors which may influence the prospective employee’s health, and to establish a medical condition of the employee at the time of the examination for potential defense in a future worker’s compensation claim.
Drug Screening and BAT
Pre-employment testing is done for new employees required to have a Commercial Driver License or employees assuming new duties requiring a Commercial Driver License. A DOT Drug Screen is done for pre-employment testing.
Random testing is done to meet compliance with 40 CFR Part 382. Because the number of UW-Green Bay employees required to be tested is small, UW-Green Bay will participate in the Prevea Clinic Consortium for small businesses to meet random testing requirements.
BAT random testing - The Consortium coordinator will draw 7% of available pool on a quarterly basis to meet the minimum requirement of testing 25% of pool annually. Because of the random nature of the process it is possible for an employee to be required to undergo random BAT testing more than once per year.
Drug Screen random testing - The Consortium coordinator will draw 13% of available pool on a quarterly basis to meet the minimum requirement of testing 50% of pool annually. Because of the random nature of the process it is possible for an employee to be required to undergo random Drug Screening more than once per year.
Post-accident testing is required after an accident meeting requirements described under VIII.C. of the UW-Green Bay Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy. Both BAT and a Drug Screen are required.
Reasonable suspicion/cause testing is done when an employer has a justified reason to believe an employee performing a safety-sensitive function is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. BAT and/or Drug Screening is done at the discretion of the employer.
Return-to-duty testing is used for employees who have been off from work for a period of time. A Drug Screen panel will be done under the authorization of the employer.
Follow-up testing is used for employees who were found to be positive and must return periodically for re-testing according to DOT testing. BAT and Drug Screen panels are done at the authorization of the employer and recommendation of the Substance Abuse Professional.

Spirometry
Spirometry is the most basic and frequently performed test of pulmonary (lung) function. A device called a spirometer is used to measure how much air the lungs can hold and how well the respiratory system is able to move air into and out of the lungs. Because spirometry is based on a maximal forced exhalation, the accuracy of its results are highly dependent on the patient's understanding, cooperation, and best efforts.

Adult Immunization Programs
Immunizations, also called vaccinations, help protect you from diseases. When you are given an immunization, you receive a vaccine that contains fragments of a disease organism or small amounts of a weakened disease organism. The vaccine causes your immune system to develop antibodies that can subsequently recognize and attack the organism if you are exposed to it. Sometimes an immunization does not completely prevent the disease, but it will significantly reduce its severity.
Why should your employees get immunized?
Immunizations help protect workers from disease. They also help reduce the spread of disease to others. By having your employees immunized you will reduce employee sick days.
